Shipping is the basic process of transporting goods from one place to another. Virtually everything ever made, bought, or sold has been involved with shipping. Despite the many differences in shipped products and geographical locations, there are only three basic types of shipments available today : Ground, Air, or Sea.
Ground shipping is easily the most popular form of shipping. Even in Air and Sea shipments, ground transportation is required to take the product from its origin to the airport or ferryport and then to its end destination. Ground transportation is definalty alot cheaper than air or sea shipments, so shippers attempt to keep their freight in trucks for as long as possible.
Many trucks will take freight directly from the shipper to its destination in what is known as a door to door deliveries. Vans and trucks of all sizes, make important deliveries to sea ports and air ports where freight is moved in larger volumes.
Merchant shipping is and essential to the world trade, carrying the bulk of international trade all over the world. The ships are also extremely expensive themselves, being some of the largest man-made vehicles ever invented. The term originates with the shipping trade of wind power ships, and has come to refer to the delivery of cargo and parcels of any size above the common size of mail, letters and postcards. Ground shipping will be cheaper and less restrictive to size, quantity, weight, and type of freight than by air transport.
Air transport is usually reserved for products which must be sent within a shorter time scale. Some carriers offer ground shipping that operates on an exact timeline as air does. Most carriers offer 48 hour delivery when shipping items by air
